Books of Note: OT Wisdom and the Apostle’s Creed

UPDATE: 2 March, 2010, 7AM (PST) – It looks like this book is now sold out.

I just noticed that the WTS bookstore has this excellent book on clearance (roughly 1/2 price – even much lower than used!): Roland Murphy’s Tree of Life 3rd ed (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2002).  This is one of my favorites when it comes to OT wisdom (Job, Proverbs, Qoheleth, etc.).  I won’t give a review of it here, but I do strongly recommend this book if you’re studying any “form” of wisdom in the OT.  Andrew might be able to say more about this.  Note: I’d get this third edition, since it has several helpful updates/supplements.

Another book I strongly recommend is Caspar Olevian’s (b. 1536) Exposition of the
Heidelberg Catechism
.  This hardcover is a great resource for studying the Apostle’s Creed – it contains Olevian’s sermons on these main biblical themes.  If some of our readers are not familiar with the Reformed theological tradition, this would be a good book to grab; it’ll be edifying and it will give a window into the Reformed “side” of the Reformation.  This is a good book for anyone who loves to recite the Creed.
